Learn how to pick the right nursing cover for breastfeeding with our buying guide. Focus on breathability, versatility, and comfort for you and your baby.
Quick answer
Look for a nursing cover made from breathable fabric that offers versatile wearing options—like the Cozy Canopy™ Nursing Cover—so you stay comfortable while feeding discreetly on the go.
Why fabric breathability matters
A nursing cover that traps heat can make both you and your baby sweaty and fussy during feedings. Soft, breathable materials help regulate temperature and keep skin comfortable, especially in warmer climates or when nursing for longer stretches.
Versatility vs. dedicated design
Some nursing covers double as a scarf, poncho, or car seat cover, giving you more value for a single item. A dedicated cover, however, may offer more structured privacy panels or adjustable necklines. Think about how often you'll use it in different situations before deciding.
How to choose your nursing cover
- Check the fabric: Choose a soft, breathable material like cotton or a cotton blend. Avoid synthetic fabrics that trap heat and moisture.
- Look for adjustable features: An adjustable neckline or strap lets you position the cover without slipping, giving you hands-free convenience and better eye contact with your baby.
- Consider multiple uses: If you want one item that works for nursing, sun protection, or as a light scarf, pick a versatile design. If privacy is your only concern, a dedicated cover may be simpler. A multi-use cover saves space in your diaper bag but may not offer the same structured privacy as a dedicated one.
- Test the coverage: Hold the cover up to your chest and check that it fully drapes over your front and sides without gaps. A good nursing cover should let you see your baby while blocking others' view.
